EU Nationals

Definition: Citizens of European Union (EU) countries, including people who have leave to remain in an EU country

European Community law gives EU nationals a right to live and work in the United Kingdom. The general rule is that EU nationals who have come to Scotland and are not working should be able to support themselves without having to claim "public funds" (i.e. welfare benefits). However help may be available depending on individual circumstances, and this can include homelessness assistance and/or some benefits. Those in need should always seek professional advice, because the issues can be complicated.

The following countries are members of the European Economic Area (EU) :
Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Eire, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, & United Kingdom.

Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway are not members of the EU, however they are members of the European Economic Area (EEA), and nationals of these 3 countries have the same right to enter, live in and work in the UK as EU citizens.
