Assistive technology/Telecare
Definition: Assistive technology - Telecare: Alarm and monitoring devices to support vulnerable people at home
Telecare and Assistive technology are alarm systems and monitoring devices that can help support vulnerable people to continue living independently in their own homes. There are a range of devices that enable action to be taken if there is a problem, through a link to a central monitoring centre (usually a community alarm service). These devices monitor can monitor a person's home and health from a distance, and they include movement sensors, sensors to monitor the home temperature, flooding, and gas escapes, bed or chair occupancy detectors, front door open/shut detectors, and falls monitors. Eventually it will be possible to allow people to have certain medical functions monitored.
