What is Supporting People?

Supporting People is the name given to a government funded policy, introduced in 2003, that describes what housing support is and how it is organised. It gives local councils responsibility for identifying what the local housing support needs are, funding the services to meet those needs (although many services may have a waiting list), and making sure that the services are effective and appropriate. Local Councils have contracts with the organisations providing the services, and these specify the type of service to be provided.
